Ask anyone in Mapleton, North Dakota, who shows up when the community needs a hand, and the Lions Club will likely be near the top of the list.

That local impact is what led Geronimo Power’s community advisory committee, made up of local residents who help identify where giving can have the greatest impact, to recommend the Mapleton Lions Club as the recipient of July’s $10,000 monthly donation. The gift will help fund a new shed at Mapleton Elementary School, replacing an older shed that has weathered over time and now has a rotten floor.

The new shed will provide much-needed storage for the school. It will hold grounds equipment such as rakes, shovels, and tools, as well as outdoor toys for students, including balls, nets, chalk, and other play supplies. For a small school district, improvements like this can make a practical difference in keeping school spaces organized, safe, and ready for students and staff to use.

“With this donation, the Mapleton Lions are proud to provide a new shed for the Mapleton Elementary School. With our small school district, we often are looking for other ways to fund improvement projects outside of the normal budget. The Mapleton Lions proudly partners with the Mapleton Elementary school to look at all opportunities to help make our school a great place for our kids and provide the tools our teachers need. With the generosity of our donors and community we are able to support organizations and individuals that are in need.” – Jordan Voller, Mapleton Lions President

The donation helped move the project forward, giving the club and school support as they begin the process of replacing the old shed with one that better meets the school’s needs. It is a simple but meaningful example of how local giving can support students, teachers, and the people who help make Mapleton a strong community.
